Our Mission — Our Board

Mission of the Magnolia Historical Society

Initiate interest in Magnolia history–gather and protect it for future generations.
Inspire the Magnolia community to help us gather acquisitions for our photo and document archives at UW Special Collections.
Invest in community historical research and writing of Magnolia history that encourages historic projects and events.
Encourage a more accurate “sense of place” through our work preserving the stories and images of Magnolia.

The Magnolia Historical Society (MHS) was founded in 2001 by a small group; many worked together as writers or volunteers on Magnolia’s first history book: Magnolia: Memories & Milestones. We welcome new members interested in volunteering, archiving, writing, teaching, research, and public speaking. It is important to the Society that history be a family affair encouraging fun, and hands-on activities. Interested! Email us.

The writing down of history has become a specialty of The Society but by no means our only emphasis of historically relevant work on Magnolia Bluff.

Work includes:

  • Produced a second collection of academic quality history, fun memoirs, and wonderful archival photos Magnolia: Making More Memories an elegant sequel to Magnolia: Memories & Milestones. Collecting new material and photos for the decades of 1940, 50 and 60’s
  • Markets Magnolia: Memories & Milestones and Magnolia: Making More Memories to raise funds for our history work …
